This will probably be an issue with the low slung sedans more than other models. It is definitely an issue with the Suzuki Ciaz and I have not faced it to this extend with my other cars, none of which were sedans.
Try taking the car out in the afternoon when the Sun is high overhead and shines straight down from your windshield on to the dashboard. I find that the glare / reflection from the dashboard back on to the windscreen is so much as to hinder visibility to quiet an extent.
Many of you many have experienced this to some extent. For example in my previous car, if there was a sheet of paper lying on the dashboard, you could see its reflection onto the windscreen. But now the surface of the dashboard itself is causing the glare, that completely covers the windscreen and is strong enough to be a serious botheration and a hindrance with visibility.
The reason of the glare to be so pronounced in my car is that the windscreen is very angled and lies at a low rake over the dashboard. Other cars may have the windscreen more perpendicular to the dashboard rather than parallel to it, and therefore not get so much reflection.
I’m thinking that is the only reason and not something else like a different kind of material used that reflects more light as compared to my previous cars.
The issue gets more pronounced if you live in a hot and sunny place. For example, for me it wasn’t so much of a bother in the winter months because the Sun was out for a short while and when it did it wasn’t very strong on most days. But with the summer months, because the Sun is out strongly and for longer hours, I find myself facing this issue more.
So if you are in the market for a new car, definitely try in out in the afternoon Sun to check for similar visibility issues.
I am not certain at this point about how this issue can be rectified. I will speak to the service people during the next service. At this point I am thinking maybe some kind of dashboard polish may help to reduce the reflection of the Sun off it, though that seems a far fetched solution, one that isn’t apt to work.
I will post an update if a solution presents itself. All the best.
Totally agree, facing same issues
ReplyDeleteYes , Experienced the worst fear while driving the car in highway during sunlight . Tried additional tint film on front glass which also did not help much. Later whenever driving in sunlight , I use a towel over the dashboard which helped a little.
ReplyDeleteWorst thing is that the showroom guys still cheat people with such a bad design and they cheat people who do not know this defect.
I have actually found a solution for this issue since the time that I posted this. I don't know if this problem exists in other sedans as well, because all of them will have similar slant of the windshield and the sun reflecting off the dashboard onto the screen. I will add the discovery here. However, like I said I have found a solution for this. "Wear polaroid sunglasses".
ReplyDeleteNormal sunglasses to nothing to cut out the glare and reflection. But Polaroid sunglasses are excellent at doing this. If you haven't tried one yet you definitely should specially in bright sunny conditions.
ReplyDeleteFor me, the glare of the dashboard and the reflection of it on the windscreen was completely cut out when I drove with the Polaroid sunglasses.
So get yourself a pair and use it while driving in sunny conditions. Not only do Polaroid sunglasses solve this particular issue but overall wearing anti UV and good quality sunglasses is supposed to be good for keeping your eyes healthy and preventing problems like cataract from developing.
